Lithium
Lithium in Rwanda is categorized as a "critical battery metal" currently in the exploration and pilot-development phase. Found primarily within pegmatite rock formations (often alongside existing coltan and tin deposits), Rwandan lithium is sought after for its high concentration of Lithium Oxide ($
Geological Context: Lithium in Rwanda is typically found in pegmatite veins. Because these same formations often host coltan and tin, exploration is often conducted in areas with existing 3T mining infrastructure. Extraction & Processing: The industry is currently moving from early-stage geological mapping to testing extraction feasibility. The goal is to produce high-grade spodumene concentrates. Strategic Importance: The Rwandan government and international partners are focusing on moving beyond simple raw ore export to establishing local processing and value-addition capabilities, aiming to export higher-value lithium carbonate or related battery precursors.
